Welcome to the Adrian Reynard Engineering Consultancy website.
In today's high tech, mega dollar motorsport world Adrian Reynard is probably the last of a breed - a traditional racing enthusiast who
built himself a special because he could not afford to buy one, and went on to become one of the most successful constructors of
production racing cars in the world.
Reynards development strategy has been to design a car capable of winning its first race in whichever category the company has
targeted. In 1985 Reynard entered Formula 3 and won it's first race from pole position; in 1988 Reynard won it's first race and went
on to win the international F3000 title at their first attempt. But in March of 1994, Reynard re-wrote the history books when they
entered the IndyCar World Series scoring a debut win from the front row of the grid.
In recent years, Reynard's expertise has led to approaches from companies seeking to use new technologies pioneered by Reynard in
non-racing products. Each new challenge rekindles the passion that has always driven the man with one of motorsport's most inventive
and entrepreneurial minds; such diversification is welcomed by Adrian Reynard since it presents new challenges to Reynard's creativity
and ingenuity.
Reynard has consulted with Ford and Chrysler in America and worked closely with Honda and Toyota in Japan. The Special Projects Division,
which was formed in 1996, provided consultancy and commissioned design, build and manufacturing projects for customers. Projects have
included the Panoz GT car, Ford Mondeo Touring Car, the Strathcarron SportsCar and the Reynard 2KQ-LM Sports Racing Car. This car went
on to be a Class Winner in the 2001 Le Mans 24 hour race.
Considering Adrian Reynard's impressive experience in motor sport, one might make the mistake of presuming that there are few thrills left
for the 51-year-old Engineer. The assumption would be wrong "For the future, I see us using the vast design skills and vehicle dynamics
database which I have acquired over the years, as a foundation from which I can provide engineering solutions all over the world.
This website is a point of contact for individuals and companies wanting to contact Adrian Reynard to utilise his skills as an engineering consultant.

Adrian Reynard built his first racing car in 1973 as a student project, and subsequently joined British Leyland as a
Project Engineer a year later. At that time, his major assets were a passion for design (trained and disciplined by
Oxford Polytechnic), and a portable welding kit.
Dr Reynard has created or been closely involved with the design of every Reynard car ever since. He is the youngest
and one of the most successful proprietor engineers in racing car manufacturing and under his leadership Reynard
Motorsport, Britain's largest and most successful production racing car constructor, has become established as one of
the leading producers of racing car chassis in the world. Reynard has an outstanding reputation for technical
innovation and excellent after sales support. 1977 saw Adrian Reynard take up a full-time position as CEO of Sabre
Automotive/Reynard Racing Cars Ltd, and tasted his first success in 1979, when his cars won the European and British
Formula Ford 2000 Championships. The company also helped pioneer carbon fibre monocoques (unibody chassis)
technologies in the 1980's, and continues to carry out pioneering work in this field today. Now, Reynard is a forty
five million pounds annual turnover business with multiple lines and an unparalleled record of sustained success in
every category of motorsport entered.
In 1990, the company was awarded the Queen's Award for Export Achievement and in 1992 Adrian Reynard was awarded the
Sir Henry Royce Gold Medal for Excellence in Engineering.
In 1993, Adrian Reynard was elected a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
The company believes that the creativity of its engineering personnel and the quality of its technical facilities
(such as Reynard's composite material technology and its CAD/CAM systems) are second to none. Reynard's development
strategy has been to design a car capable of winning its first race in whichever category the company has targeted.
In 1985 Reynard entered Formula 3 and won it's first race from pole position; in 1988 Reynard won it's first race and
went on to win the international F3000 title at their first attempt. But in March of 1994, Reynard re-wrote the
history books when they entered the IndyCar World Series scoring a debut win from the front row of the grid.
Adrian Reynard's insistence on maintaining a consistent approach to the company's development programs and to the
servicing of its customers has enabled the company to achieve sustained success. Reynard designs won the British
Formula 3 Championship in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1992; the international F3000 series in 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993,
1994 and 1995. In the Formula Atlantic category, Reynard won the 1992 and 1993 Pacific Series.
In 1995 Reynard dominated the PPG IndyCar World Series by winning the Constructor's Championship, the Driver's
Championship, the Indianapolis 500, and Rookie of the Year - Gil de Ferran was driving a Reynard 95I. This was the
company's second year in Indy Car racing.
In 1996 Reynard won the Motor Industry Association's Award for Export Achievements for a second time, securing a place
in the history books as the first racing car manufacturer to be honoured with this prestigious award twice. The
Manufacturing Division achieved ISO 9002 in a record six months.
The success story continued in 1996, 1997,1998,1999, 2000 and 2001. Reynard again dominated the FedEx Championship
Series, winning the Constructor's Championship, the Driver's Championship and Rookie of the Year titles. 1996, 1998,
1999, 2000 and 2001 also saw Reynard winning the Japanese F3000 Series.
Reynard designed cars also have the distinction of having won the fabled Indianapolis 500 twice.
In 1997, Adrian Reynard was elected a Companion of the Royal Aeronautical Society, in recognition of his company's
pioneering technologies, and today consults as Professor of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Cranfield University.
The size and scale of Reynard's three manufacturing facilities gives comfort to customers that the company has the
commitment and resources to produce quality cars and to develop its products through a competitive racing season.
Further evidence of Adrian Reynard's aims to delight his customers is in the form of computer controlled spare parts
distribution to keep customers racing competitively. From sales and servicing bases in the UK and America, Reynard
support their design integrity with the best customer service operation in world-wide motorsport. All ChampCar races
are attended by Reynard personnel, Reynard North America provide their outstanding spares service at every race which
includes the CAD/CAM facility which is conveniently located in the spares transporter.
Motor Racing places massive stresses on the production and manufacturing procedures. The company has pioneered
"Demand Manufacturing" methodology whereby parts are rapidly and flexibly scheduled on a made-to-order basis, which
takes production philosophies to even higher levels of efficiency. Reynard Manufacturing functions on a twenty four
hour shift, seven day per week basis and zero stock ideology. Maximum throughput is only achieved with 100%
co-operation from the workforce who achieve these objectives working largely unsupervised. The reactive fast
response philosophy we believe to be the ultimate in Demand Manufacturing for make-to-order parts.
1999 Saw Adrian Reynard elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
In recent years, Reynard's expertise has led to approaches from companies seeking to use new technologies pioneered by
Reynard in non-racing products. Each new challenge rekindles the passion that has always driven the man with one of
motorsport's most inventive and entrepreneurial minds; such diversification is welcomed by Adrian Reynard since it
presents new challenges to Reynard's creativity and ingenuity.
Considering Adrian Reynard's impressive experience in motor sport, one might make the mistake of presuming that there
are few thrills left for the 51-year-old Engineer. The assumption would be wrong; "For the future, I see us using the
vast design skills and vehicle dynamics database which we have acquired over the years, as a foundation from which we
can provide engineering solutions all over the world."
Reynard currently consults to Ford and Chrysler in America and work closely with Honda and Toyota in Japan. The Special
Projects Division, which was formed in 1996, provides consultancy and commissioned design, build and manufacturing
projects for customers. Projects to date have included the Panoz GT car, Ford Mondeo Touring Car, the Strathcarron
SportsCar and new for 2000, the Reynard 2KQ-LM Sports Racing Car. This car went on to be a Class Winner in the 2001
Le Mans 24 hr race.
In addition, Reynard is a founding partner in British American Racing, with the principals taking key roles in the
management structure of the company. It is with credit to the long association of Reynard with Honda, that Honda are
the engine supplier to the British American Racing Formula One team. Dr Reynard's key role of Technical Development
Director of British American Racing, is another exciting challenge. After amassing one of the most successful records
in motor racing during the 1980s and 1990s, the move to Formula One was "the logical next step" for Reynard Motorsport.
The Reynard design team, headed by Malcolm Oastler, who subsequently became British American Racing Technical Director,
boasts a very special distinction - up to 1999, it helped Reynard become the only manufacturer in the world to win the
first race of every major single-seater championship in which it competed.
2000 saw Adrian appointed as Visiting Professor in Motorsport Design to Oxford Brookes University.
Adrian Reynard is very aware, however, that there can be no resting on one's laurels in motorsport. "I'm very conscious
of that old saying that 'you're only as good as your last win', he says. Yes, we have enjoyed a lot of success at other
levels of racing, but Formula One is the ultimate test for all of us, as the 1999 season clearly proved."
"Reynard Motorsport has a mission. Our aims are to be the best company in the world in our area of expertise. We will
design and develop safe, outstanding products that set standards for others to follow using the latest technology in
innovative ways. Trained people are our most valuable resource. Our commitment is to create an environment that
challenges and demands the best from the individual. Excellence will be rewarded. At all times we shall be positive,
constructive in our approach and honest in our dealings. To be successful, we must be admired by all our clientele by
exceeding their expectations. This demands we remain flexible and dynamic in changing markets."
The Group now employs in excess of 200 people in the UK and has recently developed a scholarship scheme to attract bright,
young engineers in conjunction with Oxford Brookes University.
In 2001, Adrian Reynard was awarded "The Most Outstanding Contribution to the UK Motorsport Industry" by the MIA and
elected for the role of MIA Committee Member & Ambassador for the Education and Skills Initiative.
In 2002, Adrian Reynard was awarded the Crompton Lanchester Prize by the IMechE for Outstanding Contribution to Mechanical
Engineering in Motorsport in 2001.
Adrian Reynard was elected member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
On March 18th 2002 Reynard Motorsport Ltd went into receivership as a consequence of a severe drop-off in sales of Champcars
for the USA CART market. Reynard Motorsport Inc continues in the USA as owner of the Auto Research Centre LLC - a unique
wind tunnel facility in Indianapolis serving the major manufacturers and the motor sport industry.
Adrian Reynard remains shareholder on the main Board of British Amercan Racing Formula 1 Team where he serves as President
and Technical Advisor.
